At about 2:00 p. m. on January 30, 1960, Dr. Robert P. Ashley and Virginia Ashley, his wife, were riding as guests in an automobile driven by Mrs. Marian Fehlandt in a southerly direction on highway 45 in Racine county. Highway 45 is a north-south arterial highway, which at one point is intersected by county trunk highway C. The latter highway runs in a slightly northeastly-southwesterly direction. Mrs. Fehlandts husband sat beside her in the front seat; the two plaintiffs occupied the rear seat.
